Art Stuff I like

I love finding great new art supplies to try out. If there is something you absolutely love to use let me know so that I too can try it out. Here are some items I like:

International Museum Day

Every May 18th we celebrate International Museum Day. In 1977 this day was established by the International Council of Museums.

It's a good day to visit and appreciate your local museum. And don't forget that they probably need your support too. On this day visit your local museum and interact with the museum staff and find out what challenges the museum faces on a day to day basis.

Every year they promote a different theme on this special day. Make sure to learn as much as possible  about your local museum and maybe you can even volunteer to help once in a while.

National Nurses Day

In 1953, Dorothy Sutherland of the US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare sent the proposal to President Eisenhower to proclaim a " Nurse Day". The proclamation of not made officially, however the day gained national recognition.

International Nurse Day is celebrated on Florence Nightingale's birthday on May 12 of each year.

Take some time to recognize the contributions and commitment to quality health care that nurses across the world provide to patients. Spread the word and bring awareness to the importance of nurses in the care and well being that they provide to us when we are ill.

National Blonde Brownie Day

January 22 is National Blonde Brownie Day
Ohhh so so good...yummy.
National Blonde Brownie Day from glitterwham.com

One of my favorite things to add to the already delicious brownie is some warm caramel sauce.
Some people refer to the blonde brownie and a blondie or blondie bar. This dessert is a sweet and rich. Some may also contain walnuts or pecans or in some cases chocolate chips.
Blonde brownies look like chocolate brownies but instead of cocoa they are made with brown sugar.
Of course if you really want the ultimate sweet and rich dessert why not put together a sundae topped with a blondie and some wonderful caramel.
If you want to bake some here are some recipes:

Happy National Hug Day

January 21 is Happy National Hug Day!
So make sure to hug your loved ones today.
National Hug day pic form www.glitterwham.com

Studies have shown that human contact is good for you. Whether it's kissing, hugging or simply touching this is great for our emotional well being.
This special day was started by Reverend Kevin Zaborney in Caro, Michigan in 1986.
Why did he start this day you might ask?
He felt that Americans are less affectionate in public so he chose this day because he felt that especially in the dead of winter when most peoples spirits are already low this would be a perfect time to hug someone.
Hugging is not just a sign of love but it is also a sign of support and encouragement.
So don't be shy and make someone's day special by giving them a big hug.

What to get back at someone that's been mean or nasty? Why not ship them glitter!
Glitter is lovely to look at but you won't be able to get it off for a really long times and it gets into everything. They have the perfect handmade glitter bomb cards.
Shipyourenemiesglittershop.com can do that for you. But they can also send your loved ones a confetti filled card to brighten up their day and you can also send them a little bit of glitter.

Ship your Enemies Glitter Shop

In January 2015 as a joke a guy by the name of Mathew Carpenter (twitter @matcapenter) set up a website named Shipyourenemiesglitter.com and after a couple of posts on social media it went viral. He ended up with over 2000 orders at about $10 per envelope and ended up having to shut down the service after his website crashed. He also posted a comment stating that he had it with glitter and put the website for sale.

People that go to the website and try to order will get a notice stating that they aren't taking any orders currently.

However you can still send your enemies glitter bomb cards by visiting this website: www.glitterwham.com. They actually create a glitter bomb card to your specifications and you can actually choose between glitter, confetti or both.
These cards are not just for your enemies because there are people that would actually be thrilled to receive a confetti filled card to celebrate their special day.

So whether you want to piss off someone or brighten up their day head on over to www.glitterwham.com or www.shipyourenemiesglittershop.com

National Drinking Straw Day and National Chocolate Covered Cherry

January 3 is National Drinking Straw day, National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day and National Fruitcake Toss Day

National Drinking Straw Day is celebrated every year on January 3 which was the day that Marvin C. Stone received the patent for the paper drinking straw

NATIONAL DRINKING STRAW DAY

On January 3, 1888 Marvin C. Stone received the patent for the paper drinking straw. In acknowledgement of that invention, each year on January 3, people across the nation celebrate National Drinking Straw Day.
It is believed that the very first drinking straws were used by the Sumerians for drinking beer. It is speculated that they used the straws to avoid the solid byproducts of fermentation that would have sank to the bottom. The oldest drinking straw known to be in existence was found in a Sumerian tomb dated3,000 B.C.E. This found straw was a gold tube inlaid with a precious blue stone.
Neighbors to the Sumerians, the Argentines used a similar metallic device called a bombilla. Used for hundreds of years, the bombilla acted as both a straw and a sieve.

Recognized by the National Confectioners Association and celebrated by millions of people across the country, January 3rd is National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day.
It is almost impossible to eat just one of these chocolate covered cherry candies that have combined two favorite flavors into one delicious treat. The candy often times is made with a sweet liquid center and in some cases has a liquor filling center.
Known to many as a "mid winter pick-me-up" chocolate covered cherries, also called chocolate cordials, can be either store-bought or homemade. There are also many recipes that mimic the flavor of the long known and well loved candy.
In the 1700′s in England, cherries were enclosed in chocolate with a little kirsch (cordial) liqueur. After finding their way to America, they were well accepted with the little bit of alcoholic cordial surrounding the fruit that had been dipped in chocolate. Although originally made with the liqueur, cordials/chocolate covered cherries are more commonly made with a sugar syrup flavored with cherries. The pitted cherries that are used have been cooked in sugar syrup and jarred.
Enjoy your day sharing some chocolate covered cherries with your friends and try one of the following "tried and true" recipes:

NATIONAL FRUITCAKE TOSS DAY

National Fruitcake Toss Day is celebrated annually on the first Saturday in January. Many people receive fruitcakes as gifts sometime during the holiday season. Some people eat the fruitcakes, some re-gift them, some throw them away while other save them for January 3rd so they can celebrate National Fruitcake Toss Day.
The first Great Fruitcake Toss was held in Manitou Springs, Colorado on January 3, 1996. Each year the entrants compete to see who can hurl or toss their fruitcakes the farthest.

December 28 is National Chocolate Candy Day

What better way to rest up between Christmas and New Years than to curl up on the couch with a new book and a wonderfully delicious box of chocolate. And it just so happens that today is the perfect day to enjoy my box of chocolate since it's National Chocolate Candy Day.
Perfect day to celebrate both this national holiday and Xmas.

Did you know that chocolate is not only delicious but it's also one of the most popular sweets in the world. You probably didn't know that in the Second World War, the United States Government commissioned Milton Hershey to create a candy bar that was to be included in the Soldiers' rations and that became the famous Hershey Milk Chocolate Bar. Chocolate can be combine with almost anything to recreate your favorite treat. Personally I'm addicted to chocolate covered raisins.
    What's your sweet addiction??

Celebrate National Pastry Day by either creating or eating a delicious pastry. On this special day most pastry chef's put on a special display to celebrate this fabulous day. This day is celebrated every December 9th.

Also celebrated every December 9th is Christmas Card Day. This day honors Sir Henry Cole from England who lived from 1818 to 1874. Sir Cole created the first commercial Christmas card in 1843. Still today sending cards through the mail remains a popular tradition and we have now added to this tradition by sending e-cards and festive emails to wish our loved ones and friends Happy Holidays.

Still to this day I prefer receiving a traditional card sent via snail mail rather than an e-card. Something about opening an envelope and actually touching the paper makes me happy inside out.

So make sure to bring a smile to an old friend or family member by sending them a Christmas card this Holiday Season.
