July 20 is Happy Lollipop day...

Today is National Lollipop Day so lets enjoy these sweet treats.  The lollipop was invented in 1908 by George Smith, owner of Bradley Smith Company.
So if you have a sweet tooth (like me) you'll be picking up some lollipops today in order to properly celebrate this holiday (hey any excuse is good to get some sweet stuff).

July 20 is also Fortune Cookie Day and National Ice Cream Soda Day...it's all about the sweets today.

Adrianna and Susan have this fabulous blog about all the wonderful things that they create. They rant about the things they do and show you what they create themselves or sometimes with their kids. Their stories are real cute and funny and overall it's a really great blog. So check it out here:

July 19 is also Happy National Daiquiri Day...Love it!

Happy National Daiquiri Day  :0)

The Daiquiri was invented in Cuba by an American Businessman during the Spanish-American War. It's quite a popular tropical drink and was rumored to be one of Hemingway's favorite drinks. The original daiquiri consisted of only three ingredients which were rum, lime and sugar served shaken in a cocktail glass. I have to admit that I love my mango or strawberry daiquiris, frozen and delicious.
In order to celebrate properly here are a few recipes for you to try:

Hurray for National Raspberry Cake Day!

Today we celebrate National Raspberry Cake Day (July 19). Raspberries are one of my favorite fruits and they're summers sweet treat. Harvesting is going on right now so it's only right to bake up a special raspberry cake to celebrate the harvest. Here's a great raspberry cake recipe.

Do something Good today: Make sure to smile at strangers and be courteous. Remember that sometimes just a simple smile can brighten someone's day.
Tascha Parkinson is a folk art artist that creates whimsical little art works. Love the bright color she uses and also the subjects that she chooses. You can view her painting on her flickr page  here. I especially like her Frida portraits. If you're looking for some fun little pieces of artwork visit her store on etsy here.

Today we celebrate Nelson Mandela Day

In 2009 the U.N. General Assembly unanimously approved July 18 as Nelson Mandela Day. This special day was created to honor Mandela on his birthday for all his achievement but also to  inspire others to carry on his efforts and "take responsibility for making the world a better place, one small step at a time".

You can read more about this day and the great Nelson Mandela here.

Good thing to do today?
Save someone's life by signing up to be an organ donor, and remember to tell your family about your decision. Doing good things makes a person feel good.

I absolutely love the blog by Ana White.  Ana is a mom from Alaska that is the DIY queen when it comes to building furniture. She has great tutorials and free furniture plans. She's a whiz at coming up with ideas for furniture or designing furniture that looks like it could be from a store.
She has both indoor and outdoor furniture plans and tutorials. Check out her blog and tell me what you think...she's amazing....
